M.G. Buchannan moved to Odessa in 1887 to establish a cattle ranch. Not only
was he successful at that, but he established a political career for himself.
In 1891 he became the first Commissioner from Precinct 3. The following year
he was elected County Judge, a job he held for several terms.
He is shown here on his ranch that at times contained 100 sections.
